What is ‘Reception Ready’?
Getting children Reception Ready isn't just a single milestone—it's a ongoing team effort between families, nurseries, and schools to help children feel confident, settled, and excited about starting school.
At Diggle School, we know that every child is unique, so being truly inclusive means making sure every family feels welcome, supported, and listened to right from the start. Getting ready for school goes way beyond just learning letters or numbers; it's about developing the whole child. By focusing on their emotional wellbeing, helping them build friendships, encouraging independence, and making them feel safe, we help shape happy, curious learners who genuinely look forward to walking through the doors at Diggle School every single morning.
On this page please find information about how you can support your child to become ‘Reception Ready’ and some important links to local services.
As part of transition into our Reception class, our nursery class do regular visits to the Reception provision and with the Reception teacher. The Reception teacher also visits other nursery & preschool settings to meet the children and start building a strong relationship. Children are then invited for a transition session in the Summer term and we have a staggered entry in the first week of September.
